Review of the Past Week:
We started this week by offering two additional forms of contemplative prayer from the Christian tradition. These continue to relate to the fifth, sixth, and seventh limbs of yoga, which we introduced last week. They are are pratyhara, dharana, and dyhana (withdrawal of senses, concentration, and meditation).
As we moved into the Easter Triduum we began to explore the eighth limb of yoga – samadhi – the pinnacle of the spiritual journey, complete absorption and integration with the Divine! The Paschal Mystery that we celebrate during the Triduum can model for us the transformative experience of union with God – which requires of us the death of our small self and invites us into the fullness of a new life, life with God.
Thank you for joining us on this Lenten Journey with the Eight Limbs of Yoga! We at Ignatian Yoga found it to be a rich experience for us to continue to explore and express the ways in which these two traditions – Christianity and Yoga philosophy – can enlighten each other.
