Join Bobby for an integrated practice of Yoga Nidr Join Bobby for an integrated practice of Yoga Nidra and Ignatian Contemplation using the Gospel for the following Sunday, October 25, his first mass preaching as a deacon.

Yoga Nidra is a practice of non-doing and progressive relaxation. Throughout the practice you are guided into deeper states of consciousness beyond the thinking and active mind towards a deepening identification with the higher Self, Christ, the Divine Spirit. It frees us from assumed limitations and restores us to the eternal. This practice supports being a witness rather than reacting. Seeing rather than engaging the thoughts that come across the screen. The simple yet powerful practice helps us distinguish who we are from the thoughts we have.

Ignatian Contemplation is a type of imaginative prayer. It is a very active way of praying that engages both the mind and the heart, and it often stirs up many thoughts and emotions. For St. Ignatius, imagination played a critical role in his conversion; his key spiritual insights and revelations about God came through his imagination. Through his personal experience, Ignatius continued to develop imaginative prayer as a tool that can be used to help us know God more intimately. Thus using the imagination in prayer has come to be considered one of the great gifts of Ignatian Spirituality. Ignatian Contemplation is especially well-suited for the stories of the Gospels, and is used extensively throughout the Spiritual Exercises.

Ignatian Yoga NIdra integrates Yoga Nidra and Ignatian Contemplation. Yoga Nidra helps settle, calm, and prepare the mind and body to enter into the guided journey of an Ignatian contemplation. This integrated practice enhances the ability to discern between the movements that are of (lead to) God and those that are not of (do not lead to) God and, ultimately, to rest in God’s presence. This combined practice is a highly effective and powerful way to calm the body and mind, regulate emotion, improve sleep, and deepen your relationship with God.

“I've been looking for more integration between my yoga practice and my spiritual tradition. I just attended an information session on Ignatian Yoga, and while it will be over a year before I can start the program, I am excited for the possibilities.

My first introduction to Ignatian Spirituality was Fr James Martin's "The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything." He presents the basics of the tradition, which is very practical and helps people of all beliefs to ask and navigate life's questions, find joy in the everyday, and ultimate grow close to the Divine. It has been a guide to me in the past years, and I look forward to the opportunity to deepen my walk with this tradition.”
